“My name is Alex Abadi and I am currently a senior here at Allegheny College. I was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and when I was nine years old, my family and I moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where I lived until I graduated high school. I am an economics major with a minor in computer science here at Allegheny. On campus, I am the music director of the radio station we have on campus called WARC, where I also host a weekly radio show. I also work at the InfoDesk in the library as a student assistant. I help faculty and students with any technical related issues they may be experiencing as well as check out books and equipment out to them.
“At first I didn’t really know what to think of Allegheny; living in Ethiopia I didn’t have a lot of resources to help me find the perfect college, and I solely had to rely on my instincts and recommendations. When I got here freshman year, I was worried I wouldn’t adjust as quickly because I was so far away from my family that it hurt to even imagine life without them. However, as time passed, I began to realize the idea of community and belongingness that Allegheny is well known for and I slowly but surely got over my fears and was able to call this place home.
“During my time at Allegheny, I am studying to get a degree in economics so that I may go to graduate school and get an MBA. I hope to someday become an entrepreneur and enter the world of business. Since my father studied accounting in college, I wanted to do something that was business-related and would also make him proud one day. I also wanted to minor in computer science because with the constant evolution of technology that is taking place, I want to make sure that I am in a position where I can keep up with the times while also putting my best foot forward.
“I cannot stress enough how much it means to me to be a recipient of the scholarship support. Because of you, I am able to pursue my dream of becoming a future entrepreneur. Your fund has also given me the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skill set needed to be successful. Thank you so much for believing in me and my dreams. Again, you have no idea how grateful I am for your support.”
Sincerely yours,
Alex
