Plans to Reopen Allegheny College
Allegheny College plans to welcome our students, faculty, staff, and administrators back to campus for the Fall 2020 semester.
It is our intention to fully reopen for on-campus living and learning accompanied by, and subject to, ongoing guidance from the Pennsylvania Departments of Health and Education, federal agencies, and public health, epidemiological, and medical experts.

Governor’s Stay at Home Order Expanded To Include Crawford County

At 2 p.m. today, Governor Wolf expanded the Stay at Home Order to include Crawford County. The order now includes these 33 counties: Allegheny, Beaver, Berks, Bucks, Butler, Cameron, Carbon, Centre, Chester, Crawford, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Erie, Forest, Franklin, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lawrence, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Schuylkill, Somerset, Washington, Wayne, Westmoreland and York counties.

This semester, to be sure, is not what any of us could have anticipated when we returned to campus in January. We deeply regret that the COVID-19 pandemic required such an abrupt end to our regular on-campus operations. Please know that senior leadership and I have always had our community’s health, safety, and wellbeing in mind as we have made the decisions we have continued to share with you. Each day over the past weeks has brought new difficult decisions and choices to be made, and we recognize the very real impact on each of us these decisions have had and continue to have.

Recently, the World Health Organization announced the official name of the disease, COVID-19, that is causing the outbreak of the coronavirus. As of this past week, cases of the virus are present in 32 countries, including the United States with 53 confirmed cases.

Allegheny continues to monitor the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV) outbreak in China. College administrators held a meeting recently with Meadville Medical Center’s Chief Medical Officer, Denise Johnson, MD, FACOG, to discuss plans should a suspected case of coronavirus present on our campus. To date, there are no documented coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania.
