CREATE Faculty Publishing Award

Overview:

The CREATE Faculty Publishing Award is designed to support full-time faculty members in their pursuit of publishing artistic and scholarly works such as books, articles, monographs, collections, or other items. By providing financial assistance to cover essential publication production-related expenses (such as indexing, copyright permissions, translation costs, etc.), this grant aims to facilitate the dissemination of innovative research and creative projects across various disciplines.

What will this award pay for?

  • The cost of permissions not paid for by the press or the journal publishing the faculty member’s work;
  • Open access fees for the publication of articles in journals that meet one of the following open access criteria:
  • Special costs such as illustrations, reprint fees, editing, indexing, etc., for either an article or a book;
  • Other types of equivalent expenses involved in the “publication” of creative works in other media (music, drama, visual arts, electronic arts, etc.);
  • Up to 75% of subvention costs in cases in which a subvention is required for publication. In such cases, the applicant must submit evidence attesting to the quality of the press, the need for the subvention, and the publisher’s contribution.

What will this award not pay for?

  • Research, travel, or other expenses leading to publication.
  • Any form of publicity for the publication.
  • Costs associated with the preparation of bibliographies.
  • Costs incurred from publishing with pay-to-publish or self-publishing presses.
  • Funding for the publication of articles in predatory journals. You may find it helpful to review this guide on predatory/deceptive publishing.
  • Costs for activities that are already covered by Authors Alliance services. The Authors Alliance Partner Program helps academic authors navigate publishing, copyright, and information law with professional development, consulting, and resources on these topics.
