I had a very interesting and history-oriented summer! I took a summer course at American University in Washington, D. C. and interned at the National Archives and Records Administration (for which I received credit).  It was a really incredible experience with a variety of things.  I did some social media work such as monitoring one of NARA’s twitter accounts and writing “tumblr posts”, as well as some work with the museum/public side of things.  I went through docent training and spent time in the rotunda area talking to visitors about the Declaration, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the murals above the documents. I have to say that having just spent a year learning about colonial and revolutionary America was very helpful!  I was also visited the College Park facility and did some actual hands-on research for NARA’s education team.  On my last day I met and talked with the Archivist of the United States, and that was pretty cool! I would definitely recommend pursuing an internship at the National Archives to any history major–it was a great environment, they let me try a bunch of things and do what interested me while also pushing me to try new things.
