Service Saturday is a monthly opportunity for volunteers to work on service projects in the Crawford County community. Until now, the volunteers for Service Saturday have been mostly students. However, Civic Engagement would like the program to expand. Starting Feb. 27, they invite all students, staff, faculty and administration to participate in Service Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Meet in Pelletier Library.) The office believes that this collaborative service effort will be more effective in the following ways:

1. Relationships will be built and deepened across professional lines. This will lead to a more unified campus, one where ideas are readily shared.

2. Relationships will be built and deepened with students. This makes campus resources more accessible and helps students to feel supported. For example, a student struggling with his or her public speaking skills might be more willing to utilize the Learning Commons if he or she has already served alongside someone in that department.

3. Students will be able to learn about Meadville history and resources from employees. As many Allegheny employees have lived in Meadville longer than the average student, they can share their experience with students.

4. Employees will be able to meet other members of their community as they complete service projects alongside students.

Please consider signing up for the Feb. 27 Service Saturday. If you would like to register as an individual, click here. If you would like to register a group, click here.

Think of this not as another obligation, but rather as a time to build supportive relationships around a shared experience. Organizers encourage you to bring families, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to make your experience that much more impactful.
