This will be the last conversation that faculty and staff of Asian backgrounds hold with our students this semester. Professor Emeritus Shafiqur Rahman in Physics, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions Christopher Segur, Professor Janyl Jumadinova in Computer Science, and Professor Xiaoling Shi at the Department of World Languages and Cultures are sharing our experiences, growth, and work related to finding our voices and combating issues of equity in our fields. The conversation would cover how to overcome language and cultural barriers, how to deal with microaggressions, etc. More importantly, we are here to answer questions that students have in your everyday life so as to support and help you survive and thrive. This event takes place at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 19, in person and on Zoom. The place is the Tillotson Room in the Tippie Alumni Center; the link is here. It is open to students who have Asian backgrounds. However, we welcome students, faculty, and staff who come from diverse backgrounds to share insights, expertise, and experiences on working for equity and social justice.

The conversation is generously supported by A5 Community & Alliances, the Department of World Languages and Cultures, the International Education Office, Asian and Asian American Association, the International Club, Chinese-American Friendship Society, and South Asian Student Society. Students, particularly remote international students, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Professor Xiaoling Shi at xshi@allegheny.edu.
