TEAM MOTTOS
The goal for the new branding is to provide a united front for all of Allegheny athletics. In that, teams should refrain from adoption or using any individual team mottos. Because athletics does not employ a motto, the College doesn’t want anything in particular being confused for one.
CREATIVE SERVICES
For updated print materials, signage, environmental graphics, or anything needing graphic design, please submit those to the MarCom Project Request, and we will get to work! Our team produces anything from postcards to signage, mailers, travel pieces, specialty photography, etc.
LOGO GUIDELINES
Bold. Fierce. Unique.
The athletics branding is not meant to be complicated or overworked. The brand is designed to be open and uncluttered, allowing each element to breathe and stand on its own.
Only using one color?
The Action A is suitable for any one-color application and should remain gold or blue.
Trademark
The logos with the “TM” trademark — provided on the portal for all licensed vendors — should be used on merchandise.
Wordmarks
Wordmarks of “Allegheny” or “Gators” are allowed in limited situations, most typically in signage or headwear, where there is limited space or unusual proportions. In most cases, if a wordmark is used, there is also a complete logo elsewhere.
“Allegheny”
The word “Allegheny” should be included in every project. Merchandise, especially clothing, turns the wearer into an instant ambassador and representative of the College.
Reach Out Early
Including MarCom early in the process, for design work or consulting, is the best way to reach everyone’s goals and keep the process streamlined. Custom designs can be created for specific uses; items such as the trailer or signage often allows for additional creativity for maximum impact.
Do Not Use Elements of the Logos
Use complete logos; do not pick and choose elements. An exception is sometimes made for wordmarks; MarCom can consult on when this is appropriate.
Don’t Alter the Logos
Don’t change any details of the logos, including color, placement, sizing, and proportion. Additional effects, such as drop shadows or glows, should not be used.
Don’t Substitute the Action A for the Letter ‘a’
This treatment is typically jarring and requires pulling apart the Action A. The Action A is intended to stand alone with “Allegheny” below it.

Don’t Combine Other Elements
The new logos should not be layered or combined with other elements. They are intended to stand on their own.
Don’t Use Previous Logos
Previous versions of the gator should not be used. There will be future efforts to incorporate these marks into special campaigns, vintage collections, and other uses.
