“Yesterday Today and Forever:”
Exploring the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Incorporated’s Ideological Social-Impact in Denver, Colorado – 1920-1926

Abstract:

The second American ordeal with the Ku Klux Klan began in 1915 with its refounding in Georgia and its choke-hold on Denver, beginning in 1921. The Klan’s white Nationalist rhetoric and dogmatic practices quickly became a resonant call-to-arms for white and Protestant native-born Americans: a reaction to perceived attacks on the American way of life, both domestic and foreign. The Klan’s doctrinal ideology supported four main planks: Supremacy, Faith, Americanism, and Law & Order. And the Invisible Empire claimed the ability to redeem the Mile-High City from devilish immigrants, diluted religious morals, and corruption, while restoring “pure Americanism” to society.
