Rodnovery and Slavic Identity

Abstract:

The Rodnovery movement in various Slavic countries has brought many questions about the nature of both pre-Christian Slavic religion, and early Slavic history to light, and with it Slavic religion and identity might be changed. This work argues that much of the historical narrative shifts surrounding this movement have more to do with the time at which the Rodnovery movement was born than the pre-Christian Slavic faiths, however the desire to change the narrative and the inclination to return to traditional beliefs seem to be genuine. This leaves Rodnovery in the interesting position of being able to display how research into ancient history and the study of religions and beliefs must intertwine in order to understand the subject.
