The Allegheny College Music Scholarships are awarded to incoming students based upon a student’s intended level of participation and performance ability. Students who plan to minor in music performance are eligible, as are those who plan to participate in instrumental and vocal ensembles but have majors and minors outside of music. Award amounts range from $1000 per year and are renewable based upon continued participation.
Instrumental students should prepare two contrasting selections, or two movements from a larger work. Solos that have been prepared for assessments or concerts are acceptable. Students may also be asked to play scales. Vocalists should select two pieces from the classical repertoire of art song, opera, oratorio, or folk music. Selections should highlight the singer’s best range and two different languages.
