Want to go to Cuba? There’s a two-credit, two-week trip to the island to introduce you to Cuba, its past and present, and our shared yet separate cultural legacies of colonialism and slavery, Cold War and capitalism, and baseball and the Beatles. We’ll examine what the 1959 Cuban Revolution meant and means for both of our nations. The itinerary invites students to view themselves as participants in the local community as a commodity (tourists) and as potential agents for change (as participants of the people-to-people exchanges lauded by the U.S. government as the force behind regime change in Cuba). The visit includes tours of historic sites in Havana and nearby provincial cities, beaches, forests and farms and volunteer and service learning activities with Cuban students and entrepreneurs. Come find out more on Thursday, October 4, in Campus Center Room 309 at 12:15 p.m. If you can’t make it and are interested, email Professor Riess (briess@allegheny.edu), justin adkins, (jadkins@allegheny.edu) or Professor Herrera (therrera@allegheny.edu) for more information.
