Feb. 2: Imbolc is the Pagan celebration of the beginning of spring.
Feb. 15: Nirvana Day is when Buddhists mark the death of Buddha’s physical body, when he achieved full Nirvana.
Feb 16: Saraswati Puja, or Vasant Panchami is a Hindu springtime festival.
Feb. 16: Shrove Tuesday is Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, the day before the Christian season of Lent begins. There will be no on-campus celebration due to COVID restrictions and semester break.
Feb. 17: Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten season, when Christians prepare for Easter. There will be no on-campus service, but we will provide individual options to mark the day. Watch My Allegheny or contact jnickell@allegheny.edu for details.
Feb. 25-26: Purim is the Jewish Feast of Lots, which honors the story of Esther. Purim begins at sundown Feb. 25 and ends at sundown Feb. 26. Please note that Purim was omitted from the listing of holidays in Celebrations and Concerns this month. SRL regrets the error.
