All students are invited to submit artworks to the annual student exhibition, on view in the Allegheny Art Gallery from April 20-24. Entries must be dropped off in the Art Gallery on Wednesday, April 14, between 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Either the Art Department Building Coordinator or a gallery assistant will be available during those hours to help with the submission process. Late entries will not be accepted. Digital submissions should be shared via Google Drive with artgallery@allegheny.edu by 7 p.m. on April 14. If you are interested in submitting and would like more information, please direct inquiries to Professor Paula Burleigh at pburleigh@allegheny.edu.

A guest juror evaluates all submissions and selects artworks for display. Through the generosity of the late Foster B. Doane, a former Allegheny trustee, a Juror’s Prize will be awarded, along with prizes in Painting and Drawing, Graphics, Sculpture and Ceramics.

The 2021 Annual Student Exhibition will be juried by Carl Joe Williams, an artist working in painting, sculpture, and installation. Based in New Orleans, LA; Williams is currently an artist-in-residence for Erie Arts & Culture. Williams is one of the founders of Blights Out, a Creative Capital supported project in New Orleans. Blights Out is a community- and artist-led initiative to activate agency in neighborhood development. This initiative was initiated as part of Prospect New Orleans, the largest biennial of international contemporary art in the U.S. His visual interpretations are enhanced by his vision of art and music as extensions of one another. An accomplished musician as well as a visual artist, Williams incorporates his musical compositions into videos and installations. Found objects play an important role in Williams’s practice, becoming elements in a narrative continuum that addresses societal and historical concerns.
