Suspected Phishing Scam

LITS has recently received reports of a new phishing attempt. Allegheny community members may receive emails with a subject line like “Your product(s) has been temporarily locked.” These email messages threaten you with the loss of your Allegheny College email account and direct you to a non-Allegheny College page. The sender claims to be from the “Help Desk” at Allegheny College, but uses an email address from a private company–not from @allegheny.edu. LITS wishes to remind our community that the correct URL of the Allegheny College Password Change Form is https://accounts.allegheny.edu/. This is the only page LITS would direct you to use to change or update your password. If an email message directs you to any non-Allegheny site to reset your password, you should treat is as a phishing attempt and report it to Google. If you are ever in doubt whether a password reset reminder email might be suspicious, please reach out to us at infodesk@allegheny.edu or call the InfoDesk at 814-332-3768.
