The Director of Faculty Development is seeking faculty and staff for participation in a book group during Module 2 of the spring 2022 semester. The group will be led by Rachel Weir and Julia Ludewig and will focus on “Ungrading: Why Rating Students Undermines Learning (and What to Do Instead),” edited by Susan Blum, best known for her book “I Love Learning: I Hate School.” Ungrading assembles a wide array of practical alternatives to traditional grading methods, including contract grading and peer review, all designed to encourage deep, self-driven learning rather than focusing merely on grades. Meetings will take place on Tuesdays (March 1, 15, and 29; April 12 and 26; May 10) from 12:15pm to 1:15pm, with lunch provided, and all participants will receive a copy of the book. The group will be limited to 10 participants. Interested educators can sign up by completing this form by Friday, December 17, 2021. Sponsored by the Office of the Provost.
