Break Housing
Allegheny College offers on-campus traditional residence hall housing during the summer for students who are participating in an academic program, working for the College, or are involved with an approved College-supervised/sponsored activity. To be approved for summer housing, the Request for Break Housing must be completed and submitted by April 26 in order to secure break housing. The form provides time periods that you can select based on when you plan to be here. ie: Extended Stay, Summer-long and Early Arrival. This helps us in our planning so please be as detailed as you can.
Graduating Seniors and students withdrawing or leaving the college are not eligible for summer housing and will not be granted permission to stay past the designated move out day. If you are not working on campus or with an affiliated program you will not be permitted to stay on campus.
If you are a member of the following group you will not need to complete the Request for Break Housing form as these lists will be provided to us prior to the Fall semester: ASG retreat participants, fall athletes, cheerleaders, CLC participants, EL trip participants, Dance Intensive participants, graduating seniors, new international students, Peer Leaders, and Residence Life Staff.
This summer students will be housed in Ravine Hall. There are currently 150 spaces being offered for the summer. The majority of these rooms are doubles with singles available for summer RA staff and medical accommodations. Additional cooking facilities will be provided in Ravine Hall. Summer housing is on a first-come first-served basis. Once all 150 spots have been claimed there will be no other options on campus.

The college provides housing to approved students at no charge. However, this is a taxable benefit that the students will be responsible for paying (as explained below). The office of Residence Life can assist students in determining what category they fall into.
Student Employee: Work does not qualify for academic credit and taxable housing earnings will be reported on form W-2. To qualify, this position must: Provide an hourly payment based on the rates through financial aid with a minimum of 35 hours paid each month that the student is on campus OR provide a minimum stipend of $200 for academic work each month the student is on campus. This will show up on the student’s W-2 as added income at the rate of $13/day, the total will be taxed, and then the housing benefit will be deducted. The cost in taxes will vary based on your personal information, but is typically around $60 per month.
Student Non-Employee: The student has been accepted into an Allegheny-approved program (ACCEL educational and service opportunities, other college-sponsored retreats or meetings) and the benefit of housing (value of $13/day) will be reported on Form 1099 MISC.
Affiliated Student: The student will be staying from May 8-31 and/or August 10-25 for an approved activity (ASG Retreat, Dance Intensive, Athletes, Res Life Staff, CLC, International Student Orientation, Cheerleading, GAP, Hillel, and Peer Leaders). Students will not be taxed for housing in this category.
