There are two versions of the College seal. They are applied at the discretion of the Office of College Relations and may not be used without approval.
Official Seal
The official College seal represents our distinguished history and is applied on materials relating to official business of the Office of the President and top-level College events such as Commencement. It is applied at the discretion of College Relations and may not be used without approval.
The College Seal depicts Bentley Hall, with the sun rising behind it, and includes three inscriptions, set in concentric circles:
- Latin: “Seal of Allegheny College / Founded June 20, 1815 / Incorporated March 1817”
- Greek: “Add to your faith, virtue and to virtue, knowledge”
- Hebrew: “The desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose”
Modern Seal
There is a secondary version referred to as the “modern seal.” This version replaces the three inscriptions with the text “Allegheny College.” This version was developed mostly for environmental designs that require a reference to Allegheny College, such as podiums and backdrops. It is applied at the discretion of College Relations and may not be used without approval.
