Service Disruption

Issues with Campus Phone System

Representatives from LITS and Windstream are currently investigating intermittent issues with campus phones. Please do not unplug your phone, as this may cause it to become unresponsive. Users have reported that the display time is incorrect, but this should not otherwise affect functionality of the phone. Thank you for your patience.

Internet Outage

The College’s Internet service provider will conduct scheduled maintenance between midnight tonight (March 7) and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8. Users all across campus will experience loss of internet through both wired and wireless connections for extended periods during this window of time.

Our student network will be unavailable during the outage, as will printing. Other campus services such as Self Service, Web Help Desk, and WebAdvisor will also be affected. Most campus phones will also experience loss of service during this window of time.

During this outage, incoming calls will not be received and outgoing calls will not complete a connection. In case of emergency, Public Safety can be reached during the phone outage at 814-332-2314 instead of their usual number.

Please note that you must use a non-Allegheny College phone, such as a cell phone, to reach this number during any outage. Campus phones will not be able to complete any outgoing calls during the outage.

Brief OpenAthens outage

OpenAthens authentication went down briefly this afternoon (Tuesday, November 15, 2021). OpenAthens is the system that allows Allegheny students and faculty access to most of our databases and our interlibrary loan system, EZBorrow. When users tried to log into anything using OpenAthens, they were seeing a 404 error. The problem was quickly resolved. If you encounter issues accessing any of our databases or EZBorrow, please try clearing your browser history and trying again. If that does not resolve the problem, please open a Web Help Desk ticket so LITS can help troubleshoot.

Canvas and the Google LTI

On the afternoon of September 30, Canvas users reported an issue accessing Google documents from within Canvas.

As of 2:08 p.m., Canvas support announced that a fix had been implemented and the issue was resolved.

Many thanks to those across campus who alerted LITS to the issue.

If you are still encountering issues with Google documents within Canvas, we encourage you to reach out to Canvas Support using the Report a Problem link from the Help menu within Canvas.
