Office 365 A1 Plus For Education Will Retire On August 1, 2024

Posted on May 2, 2024 | Filed under General News

Microsoft recently announced that it will be retiring the Office 365 A1 Plus licensing, which grants a free desktop client version of the basic MS Office apps (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to anyone at an educational institution. The web browser-based version (A1) will continue to be available, but users will not be able to download the traditional desktop applications.

All college-owned PCs on campus will continue to feature the common Office applications, as our site licensing is not directly tied to this change. These same versions are also available for use in our virtual desktop environment, Apporto (available to all Allegheny community members).
