Opportunities

Internships: Many internships have been established with local agencies and individuals; each provides job experience as well as the potential to earn academic credit. Students may also arrange internships independently or through the Career Education Office. As an example, a student recently participated in the White House Internship Program, working in the Public Liaison Office.
Fellowships: A number of fellowships are offered for current juniors & seniors, recent graduates and alumni. These are paid positions lasting 6 months to one year.
Washington Semester at American University or Washington Center: Participants study source materials and government institutions while gaining internship experience in the nation’s capital.
Off-Campus Studies: Allegheny College recognizes the enormous academic, professional and personal value of studying off-campus, either nationally or internationally. Allegheny College sponsors semester and year-long programs; some require skills in languages other than English and others with no language requirements.
Experiential Learning Travel Seminars: EL Travel Seminars are led by Allegheny faculty and administrators and begin soon after the end of Spring semester. There are multiple EL options offered each year. Each is 10-21 days in length and are worth 2-4 experiential learning credits towards graduation.

The Center for Political Participation (CPP) plans and supports events that encourage political participation such as town hall meetings, Constitution Day, debate & election watch parties and local candidate forums; Students from any major can apply to be a CPP Fellow to help run the center.
The Law & Policy Program is a concentration that blends students’ academic goals and preparation in international and domestic law and policy with on-going opportunities in career education, internships, study away, civic learning, and community programming.
Global Affairs is a new focus in the Law & Policy Program for students who seek to explore possible career paths as well as academic interests that reflect international law and policy themes.
Co-curricular opportunities, including Allegheny Student Government, Amnesty International, College Democrats, College Republicans, Model UN, Mock Trial, Student Alliance for Prison Reform , Students for Environmental Action, Young Americans for Liberty and Young Feminist Leadership Alliance.
Pi Sigma Alpha is the National Political Science Honor Society for outstanding Political Science majors. Department faculty nominate students for membership in the spring of each year.
Pelletier Library is a U.S. Government and Pennsylvania document depository (over 250,000 documents).
Meadville is a county seat; many students are involved in local or state government agencies.
