Students interested in All Gender Living have the following options:
First-Year Students
First-year students who prefer a housing option that allows them to live with a roommate regardless of gender can select All-Gender Housing on the First-Year Housing Preference Form, available on the Allegheny Bound Essentials website. No separate application is required—students can simply indicate their preference on the housing form. All first-year housing is offered in double-occupancy rooms.
Upper-Class Students
In all-gender housing, upper-class students can select either double-occupancy or single-occupancy rooms. This option allows students to choose a living arrangement that best meets their needs without gender-based room assignments. For added convenience, all-gender restrooms are available in designated spaces.
Residents are expected to:
- Foster a positive and respectful living environment.
- Recognize and respect different housing preferences.
- Engage in the residential community as active members.
- Abide by all campus housing policies outlined in The Compass.
Independent Living Spaces
Upper-class students can also choose All-Gender Housing in independent living spaces, which allows roommate selection without gender-based room assignments. Most options are available during the Room Selection process for third—and fourth-year students, with some exceptions, such as specialized language or special interest housing.
Roommate Matching Preferences
Students are asked to complete a Roommate Preference Form to ensure a comfortable and supportive living arrangement. This form assists in matching students with compatible roommates.
