Course Conflicts
Students are permitted to take classes that have less than 20 minute overlaps in time with the permission of faculty and if they complete the form below. Please be aware that if the conflict is more than 20 minutes it WILL NOT be approved even if the instructors are okay with the overlap.
Students will not be able to enroll in courses with time conflicts via Self-Service. If the conflict is approved the Registrar’s Office will register the student for the course that conflicts (i.e. the student should register for one of the courses during their pre-reg time frame – The Registrar’s Office will register for the other course after the student registration time frame).
Please consult the faculty teaching the courses for which you have a conflict before you submit this form. Receiving a copy of your request should not be the first time they are hearing about it!!

Course Overload Approval Forms
Overloads for Spring 2026
Course Overload Approval Information
The Spring 2026 Overload Approval Form is now on. Friday, January 23, 2026 at NOON was the deadline to complete the form.
Please use the above links for information on Course Overload Approval and the Overload Approval Form.
During pre-registration and registration, students may register for up to 20 credits.
- Registration for 21 credits requires advisor approval; please complete the Overload Approval Form, which will then be sent to your advisor(s). You may need to meet with your advisor before they can approve the overload. They may also deny the overload.
- Registration for 22 or more credits requires both your advisor’s approval and permission from the Registrar, who will review the information on the Overload Approval Form along with your academic record and will assess your level of preparedness for the requested overload. You may be required to meet with the Registrar in person, and permission for course overloads may be denied.
- There will be a fee for 25 or more credits. Fee will be equal to the per-credit tuition fee for that semester. Contact Financial Services for fee information.
Before you submit the Course Overload Form please do the following:
- Your faculty should know in advance what you plan. Please communicate with them so they may advise you appropriately.
- Add the course to your plan in Self-Service
- Request “”Signature” permission (if required) or “Add Authorization” (if classes have started) from the faculty in the classes for which you are not yet registered. This will speed everything up.
Please note that receiving approval to take an overload is not the same as registering for the additional courses. Students will need to register for the class themselves on Self-Service once the overload is approved. It is therefore important that students do not delay in submitting the form. Students should be aware that if they wait until the last minute it may not be possible for their application to be completed and reviewed before the add deadline.
Each overload form must be accompanied by a brief statement explaining why you are seeking this overload. It should include information about other time commitments (e.g., athletics, student organizations, on-campus or off-campus employment, etc.) and how you expect to integrate additional time for academics into your schedule. If we assume that a regular 16 credit class schedule is the equivalent of a full-time job (defined as 35 hours per week and up), then for a 20 credit schedule you are expected to work 25% more hours; for a 22 credit class schedule you are expected to work 37.5% more hours; and for a 24 credit class schedule you are expected to work 50% more hours. This “overtime” and your ability to integrate it into your overall schedule is an important factor in determining whether or not an overload is appropriate for you.
Overload requests that do not include this statement will not be considered. Students should be aware that if they wait until the last minute it may not be possible for their application to be completed and reviewed before the add deadline.
Credit/No Credit Form
The Credit/No Credit Form is now on for Fall 2025. Be mindful of the deadline dates.
- New Fall 2024:
- First time and transfer students in their first year of study at Allegheny College who wish to take a 14-week course on the Credit/No Credit basis must obtain their advisor’s approval and submit the appropriate request to the Registrar’s Office by the first day of the tenth week of the semester. Students who wish to do so in a 7-week course have through the first four weeks of the course.
- Students past their first year of study at Allegheny College, who wish to take a course on the Credit’No Credit basis must obtain their advisor’s approval and submit the appropriate request to the Registrar’s Office by the end of the second week of classes for 14-week courses or, for 7-week courses only, by the end of the second week of the module.
Please remember that a course taken CR/NC, in most cases, does not count toward the major or minor requirements and does not count toward the distribution requirements.
