Space Available in “Covering Conflict” (ENGL 402)

“Covering Conflict” (ENGL 402: Topics in Journalism) M/W 3:30-4:45 p.m.

From Professor Cheryl Hatch:

We’ll focus on the effects and aftermath of war: on reporters, soldiers, civilians. Effects on the environment and global health could be part of the conversation.

We’ll be covering war
We’ll be covering wars in Vietnam, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Wars with U.S. involvement or lack thereof.

We’ll meet and interview war correspondents. We’ll read a wide range of books by soldiers and journalists and we’ll study documentaries and Hollywood films and their portrayals of war.

This is the first time this course has been offered at Allegheny College. Professor Cheryl Hatch has more than two decades’ experience as an international correspondent and photojournalist. For more than a decade, she has covered conflict in the Middle East and Africa (including Iraq, Somalia, Liberia and Afghanistan). You may view some of her work online and read her blog posts from Afghanistan last year.
