Juniors and Seniors!! Sign up for GTWY 300 “Pathways”!

Sign up for a “Pathways” experience for the second half of the fall 2018 semester. What have you learned and where are you going? If you want to explore answers to these questions, sign up today!

This fall, junior and senior students are invited to sign up for a Gateway 300 (GTWY 300) course that provides space to do the work of linking the curriculum and the co-curriculum into a personal narrative that will help move the student in the direction of a career. Students work to articulate a clear professional goal and develop a process by which they might achieve it. This course is designed for students recently returned from an internship or study-abroad opportunity or who have completed a long-term service commitment and is meant to help them integrate these experiences into their curricular plans.

This one-credit Module B course meets once a week starting the week of October 15. Students do not need to have taken GTWY 100 in order to take GTWY 300. Both GTWY 100 and 300 may be repeated for credit.

Contact Professor Patrick Jackson for more information or see one of the people teaching the courses, listed on WebAdvisor.

Sophomores and Juniors!! Sign up for GTWY 100 “Pathways”!

Sign up for a “Pathways” experience for the second half of the fall 2018 semester. Who are you and what do you want to become? If you want to explore answers to these questions, sign up today!

This fall, sophomore and junior students are invited to sign up for a Gateway 100 (GTWY 100) course that explores how to link personal interests and educational experiences to future and professional goals. Students investigate curricular and co-curricular opportunities related to their passions and are provided help in identifying appropriate paths forward that will both enrich and build upon one another. In conversation with faculty and staff facilitators and their peers, students will think about a major and about how to apply their academic training and interests to internships, civic engagement, undergraduate research, and study abroad opportunities.

Fall 2018 Update (October 2018)

‘X’ Deadline: The last day to opt for a student-initiated withdrawal from a course (“X“) is Friday 2 November.

Forms for withdrawals are available in the Registrar’s Office and require the signatures of the instructor and your academic advisor. The completed forms must be turned in to the Registrar’s Office by 5 p.m. on Friday 2 November. Please keep in mind that only one student-initiated withdrawal per student is permitted per semester. If you wish to take a leave of absence from the College (i.e., to withdraw from all classes this semester), please contact the Dean of Students Office.

If taking a student-initiated withdrawal will leave you with fewer than 12 credits for the semester, you are strongly encouraged to consult with Financial Aid and Financial Services before you submit the card.

Graduates of January and May 2019: Check the tentative graduation list.

The Registrar’s Office in Murray Hall will publish and post a tentative January and May graduation list from Friday 12 October through Friday 30 November. All seniors are responsible for making sure their names are on the tentative list. You may stop in to Murray Hall from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays to confirm that your name is listed.

Please be aware that if your privacy category is set to “Release No Information,” we are not able to post your name in public. Please stop in to Murray 128 to discuss what that means for Commencement. You may view your Privacy category under “My Profile” in WebAdvisor. Please see here for a description of the possible privacy categories.

Please contact the Registrar’s Office (registrar@allegheny.edu814-332-2357) if you have questions about any of these items.

Add/Drop/CR-NC Deadline is Monday 10 September at 4:00 pm

Monday, September 10 at 4:00 p.m. is the deadline to add a class, drop a class, or declare a course Credit/No Credit for the Fall semester. Add cards and Credit/No Credit cards must be turned in to the Registrar’s Office (Murray 128) by 4:00 p.m. on 9/10. Drops must be completed on-line via WebAdvisor by 4:00 p.m. on 9/10.

Adding a class requires the instructor’s signature, and declaring a class Credit/No Credit requires the advisor’s signature. Students are reminded that faculty schedules vary, so any needed signatures should be obtained as soon as possible. Students who miss the deadline will NOT be able to change their schedules.

Seniors: Check your Senior Project Registration!!

Please see here for directions on how to register for a “double” senior project. If a student is writing a combined comp, they need to make sure their registration is for “DOUBL HIST/MATH 600″ or “DOUBL CMPSC/COMM 610,” as the case may be. If a student is writing two separate comps, this does not apply; they will need to register as per the rules of their two majors.

If you are facing a situation where your major departments have different registration requirements for senior projects, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR ADVISORS BEFORE YOU REGISTER!! So, for example, one program requires a two semester comp and the other doesn’t; or one program requires a 2 credit 600 and the other a 4 credit 600. If you are uncertain, you can find that information in the Academic Bulletin for the year you first came to Allegheny.
