Erin Sweeney ’10

Fall 2008 – Spring 2009 Davies Leader

“Revitalization of Shadybrook Park and Project-One Student Coordinator”
Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED)

Allegheny College’s Center for Economic and Environmental Development engages students, faculty and the community in creating innovative approaches to environmental stewardship, environmental education and regional revitalization.

In the Fall of 2008, during her first year as a Davies Leader, Erin worked with Amara Geffen, CEED Director, on the Local Foods Network. Erin is part of an organizational committee for Project O.N.E. (Offering Nutrition to Everyone). She hopes the Local Foods program will progress with the help of a Davies Leader. The purpose of the Local Foods Network (LFN) is to facilitate cooperation among local producers, local markets and consumers to support a diverse and healthy food network. Erin worked to gather all business partners and community members involved in this effort in a roundtable discussion.

Erin is from Geneseo, NY. She is a junior at Allegheny College. She has self-designed her major and titled it Community Empowerment. Erin is minoring in Spanish. She has been a part of ACCEL’s Alternative Spring Break trips, Bonner Leader Program, Experiential Learning trips, and has studied the Transforming Communities program in Washington, DC. In the Spring of 2009, Erin will be taking the opportunity to study abroad in Ecuador.
